1937
T. Rowe Price & Associates is founded by Thomas Rowe Price, Jr., upon the principle that the firm put clients' interests first—always—to create client and, ultimately, company success.

1949
T. Rowe Price reports its first profitable year.

1950
The Growth Stock Fund, the firm's first mutual fund, is launched.

1951
The first institutional separate account client is accepted, solidifying T. Rowe Price's commitment to helping institutions invest for their employees' retirements.

1968
Mr. Price takes the unprecedented action of closing the New Horizons Fund to new investors based on what he perceived to be an overheated market in emerging growth stocks.

1969
The first mutual fund dedicated to investing in natural resources, the New Era Fund, is established.

1971
The Fixed Income Division launches, providing investors with a more diverse range of investments.

1982
T. Rowe Price offers full-service, daily valued recordkeeping services for defined contribution plans.

1985
An in-house phone support service for retirement plan participants is introduced.

1986
A public offering (TROW) is initiated to support continued growth and reinvestment.

1993
A 24-hour automated phone service is introduced, allowing participants to obtain account information and initiate transactions.

1994
The firm establishes T. Rowe Price Retirement Plan Services, Inc. The firm creates a Third Party Distribution channel to expand its services. The Client Service Center opens in Tampa, FL.

1996
Online retirement account access is introduced, which makes it possible for participants to check balances at any time.

The firm launches a comprehensive suite of education-focused communications developed to help participants take a more active role in planning for the future.

1998
The industry's first do-it-yourself communications planning tool, dedicated plan sponsor website, and Client Access Reporting via the Internet are introduced.

1999
The Western Region Operations Center in Colorado Springs, CO, opens to provide redundant coverage and extended participant service hours.

2000
T. Rowe Price Global Investment Services is established to serve institutional investors worldwide.

The CreativeExchange, our award-winning, in-house agency, is formally launched to continue to create and deliver integrated participant communications through multiple channels.

2001
T. Rowe Price enters a growing market for 529 college savings plans, meeting the expanding needs of investors.

An enhanced participant website is launched, giving participants access to account data, guidance, and tools; usage increases dramatically as a result.

2003
The firm launches the T. Rowe Price Retirement Funds.

2004
An industry-leading, innovative target-date default strategy is developed to help participants improve saving for retirement.

2012
T. Rowe Price continues to refine our participant and sponsor experience, which is grounded in the fundamental value the firm has been delivering for over 75 years: confidence.
